Donation & Refund Policy

Donations are generally non-refundable

Donations to AFOSI are voluntary contributions to our programs and are, as a general rule, non-refundable once processed. This reflects standard nonprofit practice: funds are often committed to program activities shortly after they're received, and we want donors to be able to trust that a gift, once given, goes to work.

That said, we recognize genuine mistakes happen, and we will review refund requests made in good faith under the circumstances below.

When we will consider a refund

We will review a refund request if:

• You were charged more than once for the same donation (a duplicate transaction caused by a technical error)
• You entered the wrong amount and notify us promptly
• Your card or mobile money account was used without your authorization (suspected fraud)
• You intended a one-time donation but a recurring/monthly donation was created in error
• A clear technical error on our site or our payment processor's checkout caused an incorrect charge

When we will not issue a refund

• You've simply changed your mind about a donation you knowingly made
• The request is made more than 14 days after the donation date (see Section 4)
• The funds have already been allocated to a program in a way that cannot reasonably be reversed, for donations under dispute for reasons other than those listed in Section 2

How to request a refund

Email info@afosi.org within 14 days of the donation, including:

• The email address or phone number used to donate
• The date and amount of the donation
• The payment method used (card, M-Pesa, or other supported method)
• A brief description of the issue

We'll acknowledge your request within 3 business days and let you know the outcome after reviewing it against Section 2 above.

How refunds are processed

Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method used for the donation (the same card or mobile money account). We're not able to redirect a refund to a different account or payment method. Depending on your bank or mobile money provider, refunds can take 5-10 business days to appear after we process them on our end.

Any transaction fees charged by our payment processor on the original donation may not be refundable, as these are retained by the processor rather than AFOSI.

Recurring (monthly) donations

You can cancel a recurring donation at any time by emailing info@afosi.org with the request. Cancelling stops future charges — it does not automatically refund past ones, which are handled under Sections 2-5 above like any other donation.
